This is a picture of our street a couple of weeks ago after our first big snow of the season. I'd love to tell you that it looks different now, but it really doesn't. Just when you start thinking you may be able to see your street again, God decides it's time to drop another layer. I know there are several people out there who just look at this and laugh at what I think is a lot of snow, but you have to remember that I have lived in the South for basically my entire life. I have NEVER seen snow like this before...and if I did, it was gone the next day!
As a friend so lovingly reminded me yesterday, we chose this. I can always count on him to throw this back in my face. :) We chose to make the move to the great white North, and I wouldn't trade my decision for anything. I am really going to try to make it one of my "resolutions" this year to blog more and try to keep track of our ever-changing, fast-paced life. So just be prepared to see lots of pictures that look like these for the next few months...
This is our driveway after I shoveled. I am fairly confident that I looked like a huge idiot and that my neighbors were all secretly laughing at me as they used their snow blowers. The positive side of this is that as I type, a sweet neighbor has felt pity on us and is out there using his snow blower while Jovan is shoveling. Guess this time it paid off to look like a colossal idiot! ;)
Our little snow bunny
Our backyard...we have adirondak chairs out there somewhere...
On another positive note, Lainey is LOVING the snow! She would seriously stay out there for hours if we would let her. As much as I have never been, and probably won't be a fan of snow, I must admit that it really is gorgeous here. Drastically different look to winter than the dreary rain, brown lawns, and gray skies that make up Memphis winters! As Jovan and I keep marveling, it's amazing how quickly you start adjusting. We've realized that 40 degrees has become our new 70, and we feel really accomplished when we drive and arrive safely to our destinations, ha!
Enough about the snow though! We're looking at making some big changes in 2011. We, of course, made one of the biggest decisions in our lives last year when we decided to pack up our lives we'd known for over 25 years and move to Omaha. We hit our 6 month anniversary of living here on January 17th. It's really weird to think about because there are times where I feel like we just moved here, and other times when I feel like we've lived here forever. We have been blessed to be renting a great house with great neighbors in a great neighborhood. I have an amazing job and have never been happier (with the exception of the year I got to teach with one of my best friends :)!). Jovan has a fantastic job that he is absolutely loving as well. We've found a great church, and we have made some good friends here. Of course we miss our Memphis friends like crazy, but I can't tell you how amazing it has been to have my family so close and know that we can get in the car (almost) any time and be there in 3 hours! It's starting to feel like home, and we're about to make a huge leap to make it feel even more that way.
We just started the house hunting process, and to say I'm overwhelemed would be an understatement. Due to the fact that we always knew we would be moving away from Memphis eventually, we never bought a house there. We are first time homebuyers, and we are terrified! :) That will probably be our biggest change in 2011, and a very welcome one at that! I will update more as we continue our journey.
In Lainey news, she is 3 going on 13. Everyone told us that the "Terrible Threes" and much worse than the "Terrible Twos", and I now believe it! She is absolutely the most funny girl around, but boy when she gets in a mood-WATCH OUT! We're hoping to get her started with dance this spring seeing as she takes a class at her school and loves it. I love to sit there and watch her because it just amazes me how this dance teacher can get her to stand on her tiny blue piece of tape for an entire 30 minutes and do everything she tells her to do! She is the only one in her class that gives her full attention, and it just amazes me seeing as nothing else can keep her attention for more than 5 minutes! Can't wait to have recitals to look forward to! :)
Forgive my abnormally long post!
