Superhero 5K

So today was the race I've been training for for eight weeks.  I started Couch to 5K with the intent to become a "runner" but also to complete my first real 5K.  I found about 5 weeks in that I was able to run 3.1 miles, and this made me so excited!  I woke up this morning ready to go!  My parents were in town for the weekend, so we all woke up bright and early and headed downtown.  I was thankful to have a cheering squad there!  I ran this race with a few of my friends from work which made it much more fun.  We got our race chips, lined up, and got ready to go!

Ready to get our race on!

And we're off!!!
Running with people is definitely my thing.  Unlike most people, I would much rather run with someone, so races are really good for me.  They get my adrenaline going and keep me focused.  I ran the whole thing with the exception of one hill.  No one told me that our midtown is so freaking hilly! The course was awful!  I was not prepared and was devastated to have to walk a hill, but justified it because there were people walking (I mean, like real runner looking people!) LONG before me, so I'm good!

Last turn!
I finished in 32:14 and was greeted on the last little leg by jovan and the girls at one point, my dad at another point, and my mom doing a little last leg run with me cheering me on like a complete goob, haha!  I finished and then we waited for Lainey's race to start.  All in all, I had a blast!

Overall: 109 out of 349
Age (30-39): 12 out of 59
Gender: 34 out of 120

Lainey ran her first 1K today also.  We did no prior training despite my desire to, however we did go run a mile a few days before the race.  She rocked it!  I was so proud!

Success after her first big run at home a few days before the race!

Getting ready to race

And she's off!

She struggled, but this girl ran the entire way...hills and all!  She was a true superhero!  She even came in first place in her age division!!!

Oh trying to get a good pic of all of us is so fun! ;)

#1 Supporter!

Great race day!  We could not have asked for better weather or energy!  I can't wait until my next one!

Things I Learned:

1. Know Your Race Route BEFORE Your Race.
I learned this the hard way.  I went and drove the course the day before.  I don't spend a lot of time in our midtown, so I had NO IDEA how hilly it was!  It was AWFUL!  Everyone I talked to seemed to know how many hills there were but me, haha!  Next time, I will better prepare for the course!

2. I Need People!
I am definitely not a by myself runner.  I know most people are, but I need the energy of other people to feed off of in order to keep myself going.

3. I Can Do This!
I never in a million years would think this would be something I would be interested in, but I have caught the running bug and hope to accompish much more with this.
